ZAPEXAPP SOLUTIONS (OPC) PRIVATE LIMITED (“we”, “us”, “our”) built the Portmanteau app with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what the App does and does not do with your information.
The short version
Portmanteau has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, and no tracking. Everything the App learns about you — the words you like — stays on your device. The single time anything leaves your device is when you tap to hear a word spoken: the App sends that word’s text to our pronunciation service to fetch the audio. That’s it.
What the App stores (on your device only)
To personalise which words it shows you, the App records, locally on your device:
- which words you viewed and for how long (dwell time, in milliseconds);
- a derived “taste” profile and per-category time totals.
This information is stored in the App’s private on-device storage. It is not transmitted to us, and we have no ability to access it. You can erase all of it at any time from the App’s settings screen (“Reset what we’ve learned”), or by deleting the App.
Spoken pronunciation (the one network feature)
Portmanteau can read words, phrases, and sentences aloud. When you tap the speaker on a card, the App sends the text of that card (a word from our curated dictionary, or a phrase or sentence) together with your chosen accent to our pronunciation service at api.zapexlab.com, which returns the spoken audio. The audio is then saved in the App’s on-device cache so repeat listens work without a connection; when you are offline, the App falls back to your device’s built-in voice.
What we send is the dictionary text and accent preference only — no account, name, email, or device identifier is attached (the App has none). As with any internet service, our service and our content-delivery and security provider (Cloudflare) automatically process the network request — including your IP address — in order to deliver the audio and to protect the service from abuse. These request logs are retained for at most 24 hours and are then rotated out and deleted. We do not use them to build a profile of you, to track you, or for advertising, and they are not linked to your identity.
Feedback you send us
If you choose to send feedback from within the App, we receive the message you write, any email address you optionally provide (used only to reply to you), and a short, non-identifying note of your app version and device type to help us reproduce issues. This is sent only when you tap “Send feedback”, is used only to read and respond to your message, and is not linked to your on-device data or used for any other purpose.
Information we do NOT collect
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, photos, or any account or personal information — the App has no accounts and no sign-in. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we do not show ads in this version of the App (see “Future changes”). The personalisation (“taste”) data described above never leaves your device.
Children’s privacy
The App has no accounts and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The only thing transmitted is the dictionary text you choose to hear pronounced, which is not personal information and is not linked to any individual.
Data retention and deletion
Your on-device data (the “taste” profile) is entirely under your control — using the in-app reset, or uninstalling the App, permanently removes it. The pronunciation request logs described above are retained for at most 24 hours by our service and security provider and are then deleted.
Future changes (advertising)
This version contains no advertising. If a future version introduces ads, we will update this policy before that version ships to describe what the advertising provider (for example, Google AdMob) collects — typically a device advertising identifier used to serve and measure ads — and how to opt out. Your continued use after such an update constitutes acceptance.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. We keep no personal data about you beyond the transient request logs described above (held for at most 24 hours for security and not linked to your identity), so there is normally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete; your on-device data is controlled entirely by you. If you have a specific request, contact us at the address below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the current version.
